Utilize Windows Update Troubleshooter

Reset Update Components

1. Press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
2. Stop Windows Update services by typing net stop wuauserv and pressing Enter.
3. Rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders by typing ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old and ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old respectively.
4. Restart Windows Update services by typing net start wuauserv and pressing Enter.

Run Updates in Clean Boot State

  • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type msconfig and press Enter.
  • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
  • Check the box next to Hide all Microsoft services.
  • Click Disable all to disable all non-Microsoft services.
  • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  • Disable all startup items in Task Manager.
  • Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window.
  • Restart your computer in Clean Boot State.
  • Run Windows Update and install any available updates.
